Hot Fuzz
The perfect film for anyone who ever wanted to shoot two guns at once whilst flying through the air.
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Timothy Dalton
Rating: 8/10
Directed By: Edgar Wright
Runtime: 121 minutes
Magnificent Bastard I've been anxiously awaiting this movie since first hearing it was in production. I've been a fan of the trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost since seeing a screener copy of Shaun of the Dead six months before it's US release. Shaun was a hilarious take on the zombie movie genre that really worked, primarily because it wasn't a "spoof" of the genre. Wright and company didn't make fun of zombie movies, they celebrated them - it was clear that they loved the genre and in a sense were making a "fan-boy" comedy, and we laughed along with them.

Hot Fuzz

They've done it again, this time celebrating the glorious excesses of the action movie genre, with a special nod to Point Break and Bad Boys. The tone of the film might be best described in a single quote. After watching the Swayze and Reeves masterpiece, Frost's character Butterman asks Pegg's Nicholas Angel what he thought of the film - "Well, I wouldn't argue that is was a no holds barred, adrenalin fuelled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork."

And of course, they then go on to deliver a no holds barred, adrenalin fuelled thrill ride that's also one of the funnier films I've seen in months. And fans of Shaun will be happy to know there's even a few scenes of nicely done gore . . . Timothy Dalton's jaw piercing alone might be worth the price of admission. All very funny, all very very British.

Don't miss this one. Don't wait for it to hit DVD. Go see it now. If films like this make more money, maybe we'll get more of them. Instead of Wild Hogs 2.
