The Cheeks
PowerPop band from Germany that's worth the effort to track down
The Cheeks are a band from Germany that play what has come to be known as PowerPop - strong melodies, crisp harmonies, and much riffage. Their early works were sparse and economical, but as the band matured the music evolved as well. Their newest release, "Raw Countryside", evokes a very strong Byrds vibe, and maybe a touch of Love, and the sound is luscious - a sound you can almost wrap around you. These guys obviously take the music seriously, but more importantly, they believe in the music. They've now started their own label for other bands whose vision they share.
I liked this album the first time I heard it. I liked it more the second time. After the fourth listen - I love it! This is an album you can come back to over and over. Give them a listen on their MySpace page.
